Her parents are Dennis Alan Taylor, a former bank executive, as well as Jennifer Marina Joy, a psychologist. She is about half English and half Spanish. Their father is Argentine from Scottish and English descent. The mother of her is Spanish-English. Her siblings include four members of her father's ex-married partners. The family she grew up with was in Buenos Aires from the time she was just six until they relocated from Argentina to Victoria, London. Taylor-Joy stated that the transfer was difficult, and she was unable to go back to school in English in the hope of be able to return to Argentina. Her school had to change to Northlands and then Hill House. She later enrolled at Queen's Gate School where she took ballet classes and acted in school plays. She quit the high school aged 16 to focus on her acting career. As a child, Taylor-Joy always knew she wanted to work as an actress. the dream became a reality when she received a modeling contract at the hands of Sarah Doukas the founder of Storm Management.
