Madhuri Dixit

Madhuri was an Indian actress who has gained notoriety for her roles in Hum Aapke Hain Koun and Beta Saajan. Her career began in the late 1980s, and rose to popularity with her role in Tezaab, a film in which she appeared alongside the veteran actor Anil Kapoor. The next time she appeared on screen was Dil with Aamir. In her early years her Mumbai-born dancer started studying at a very early age. At the age of 15 began acting, but struggled as many films she made were not successful. She finally found success, and she was one of the top actresses within the Indian film business. Following her marriage the actress took time off from acting prior to returning. Dixit played an important role on Gulaab Gang, a film focused on women's struggles in India. Dixit was awarded 8 Filmfare Awards out of the fifteen nominations she received. She was also honored with her Padma Shri the fourth highest civilian award in India. Her name is well-known for her social works as well.
